Malin to Mizen 2016

After a lot of plotting and planning over the winter months as well a lot of training - Denis and Padraig began their journey from Malin Head in Co Donegal to Mizen Head in Co Cork on Thurs 9th June 2016.

Leaving an extremely foggy Malin Head behind, the lads cycled through Donegal skirting around the towns of Letterkenny and Bundoran.   On into Manorhamilton and Drumshambo in Co Leitrim before coming to rest for the night in the Leitrim Marina Hotel in Leitrim village.

The following morning saw the lads cycle through Carrick on Shannon and onto Elphin in Co Roscommon followed by the village of Tulsk.  Onwards to Athlone in Co Westmeath where they enjoyed some KFC while avoiding a shower of rain.  Through Ferbane and Birr in Co Offaly before crossing the border into Roscrea in Co Tipperary.  They finally came to rest in The Hayes Hotel in Thurles.

Day 3 saw the lads enter the Rebel county of Cork where they stayed the night in the Riverside Park Hotel in Macroom.  The following morning six of their cycling buddies from Beara arrived for breakfast and to join them on the final leg to the Mizen.  A further group joined up in Durrus.  A triumphant group reached the Mizen on Sunday 12th June.  The total cycling time was 23 hours and 30 minutes covering a total distance of 640km. Thanks must go to Paul O'Connor who ably supported the lads on the road during their trip.  Denis' wife Vera; son Callum and daughter Aoife also offered support, encouragement and most importantly food!  Below is a short video showing some photos we took along the way.
